Assignment #3

For this post you are going to tell me about your favorite Halloween memory. This could simply be a story from your childhood or maybe you want to tell me about your all time favorite Halloween costume. You must also include a picture that helps to illustrate your post.

This most must be a minimum of 10 sentences.

POST TITLE: Halloween

Halloween

My favorite Halloween memory is more of an October memory. One of my classmates had a birthday in October and she always had the best birthday parties. Now while they weren't always necessarily "Halloween" themed they usually were fairly scary.

One birthday party I remember in particular was when we took a tour of "haunted houses" around town. Either her Mother or the current owners of the house shared their haunting stories with us. Whether or not they were true I'll never know, but they certainly scared a bunch of young girls. I think that I will always vividly remember these stories, especially because the homes were in my own neighborhood. Maybe I'll have to one day share them with my daughter and her friends.

Another great birthday party memory I have was when we were going out in the country because there had been some "hobos" sited on my classmates grandparent's farm. So you have to imagine about 10 girls crammed in the back of a station wagon heading out into the country to talk to the hobos. Needless to say before we even got there we were on edge. It was a dark night, the moon and stars were covered by clouds, it was a very omnious evening. Once we arrived at the farm we were lucky
enough that there were some fortune tellers who were also there. It was definitely our lucky night, hobos and fortune tellers, what more could we want. As it goes with young scared girls there was lots of screaming and running and hiding. But, overall I think a good time was had by all.

These are just two of my favorite memories from October. While it didn't take much to scare us we always enjoyed the adventures we knew we were sure to have.

THIS BLOG POST MUST CONTAIN A MINIMUM OF 4 SENTENCES.

Summer Vacation

My favorite thing about summer vacation was being able to stay home with my family. Myka was born in June so we didn't do a whole lot this summer, but it's always nice to just be able to stay home and relax. One of Haylee's favorite things to do is go swimming, so we made lots of trips to the pool. She also took swimming lessons this summer, which she really enjoyed. We did get to take a mini vacay, the first day we went to Manhattan and got to visit with my sister. Day 2 we drove on to Kansas City and had an awesome time at Schliterbahn. Lucky for us my husband has an aunt that lives in Kansas City and Myka got to spend some time with her while the 3 of us enjoyed some fun in the sun. To top of our mini vacay we went to the T-Rex Cafe, let me tell you it's an unique experience, definitely something to check out. Now you can see why I love summer vacation. There is nothing better than spending time with family. :)

March 19 Assignments

Below there are four different options for blog posts. You should be able to complete at least 2 in a class period, if you have more time please continue working on them. You may complete them in any order that you wish. These should all be their own separate posts.
  • Through the years new inventions have changed the way we live. Think about one invention that has had an impact on the way you live. Now write to explain how this invention has changed your life. Please include a picture of the invention.
  • Your principal wants to invite a celebrity speaker to your school. Think about the celebrity you would choose to have speak; then, write a letter to persuade your principal to invite this person. Be sure to include convincing reasons and details to support your choice.
  • Your principal has asked students to suggest a school rule that should be changed. Think of one rule that you would like to have changed. Write a letter convincing your principal that this rule should be changed. Be sure to support your opinion with convincing reasons and evidence.
  • Write a short biography of a family member. (Mom, Dad, Grandma, etc.) A biography should include:
    • basic facts of the person's life (birthday, family, etc.)
You can also ask yourself the following questions:
    • What makes this person special or interesting?
    • What are the adjectives you would most use to describe the person?
    • What examples for their life illustrate those qualities?
    • What events shaped or changed this person's life?
      • Include pictures that help characterize this person.

Inventions

While there are several inventions that have had an impact on my life one that I use on a daily basis would be a cell phone. Cell phones were just becoming the "in" thing as I was finishing high school and you definitely had one when you went away to college. At this time though we basically used our cell phones for making phone calls. The other amazing feature of your phone was being able to play snake. Texting was just starting to become popular, but for the most part it was a common thing.
From the time I graduated high school to now cell phones have changed a lot. When I had my first amazing phone, a Nokia 5110 I couldn't have even imagined an iPhone and all of the features available with it. While I'm sure deep down I could live without my cell phone, it is definitely one of the luxuries that I enjoy. It's so simple to be able to text someone quickly, or check the weather, or even my Facebook. Also, I couldn't imagine going to the "city" and not having GPS to get around.

Winter Assignment

When it comes to winter...(pick one of the options below)

  • I love it, it's my favorite season!
  • I like it if it actually snows.
  • It's just another season.
  • I could live without it, give me my 80 degree weather.
Once you have picked one of the descriptions above, you need to elaborate on your choice. Feel free to use pictures as well.

Winter

When it comes to winter, I could live without it, give me my 80 degree weather. I think I was born a California girl at heart. I might have been born and raised in Kansas, but I'm not a huge fan of their winter weather. I absolutely love summer, if it was summer weather all year round I probably wouldn't complain. Even though I know our Kansas/Nebraska summers can sometimes be unbearable, I'm ok with the occasional 100 degree day.

Another reason I enjoy summer so much is because of all of the great things that you can do during the summer. Grilling, picnics, picking flowers, swimming, baseball. I could go on and on with all the fun things I enjoy doing.

Of course we all know that by being a teacher, I get a good chunk of my summer for vacation. This means that I get to spend lots of time with my family. We get an entire summer to relax, play games, and go swimming.
